Why the Bereans?
Categories: Christian living, Bible | 2009 | by Ken Horn | one commentsWhy are the Bereans so often held up as the best example of students of the Word?
The answer can be found in Acts 17:11, “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
They did what we all need to do. They checked anything they were taught to make sure it was consistent with God’s Word. See “Look in the Bible” for more on this.

Sadly, too often today in many circles, if one searches the Scriptures and questions what the pastor/evangelist/prophet is saying based on Biblical evidence, one is accused of having a critical spirit, not “being on board” with the vision, or warned to “touch not the Lord’s anointed” (which is itself quoted out of context). A big difference from being lauded for Biblical scholarship like the Bereans.
