One of the main objections by the people who would do away with the KJV is that people say they can't understand it, the word of God told us almost 2000 years ago that people would become weary of hearing the true word of God, and from the day My Savior was crucified on the cross, saten has been coming up with newer and better ways to convince people there is a shortcut and cheaper way to get into the Kingdom of God.
Instead of actually studying the word of God the generation we live in today wants instant gratification.
2 Tim 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
We need to test anything that claims to be a better, Translation of God's Word. If it walks like a Skunk and looks like a Skunk let's quit calling it a rabbit, because it is a skunk.
It seems today nobody wants to study God's Word any more but, simply take what is presented as being unconditionally true. To say the least we live in the last days, as Paul was saying to Timothy.
2 Tim 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2 Tim 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2 Tim 3:4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2 Tim 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Tim 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2 Tim 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Our society is becoming more educated than any generation has ever been, but we are accepting more untruths and fabrications. Approximately 50% of the youth in The USA see nothing wrong with a man or woman being a Homosexual. But, God calls it sin.
We seem to be sacrificing truths for distortions. Our society is getting further away from God by trying to trivialize, commercialize and pollute God's Word by accepting Bible translations that truly repel men and women rather that draw them to Him. And we wonder why the numbers of people are slipping away, and ultimately to a devils hell. and why AG Churches are closing more of their doors every day.

Mr. Rich well said!
It breaks my heart to see what is happening to the life giving Word of God and his instructions to us. We become like every other denomination. Just like a thief in the night, many don't even realize there error.

Let me say, first of all I am a member of the AG, over the last 30 years I have seen a very definite decline in numbers and thus Spirituality.
I see the manifestation of 1st and 2nd timothy being fulfilled in our society and our church.
Our Local church is suppose to believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit but, on the rare, rare ocasasion that a person gives a message in tongues, the pastor somehow feels he must apologize to the congreation for the outburst by trying to explain what just happened. To me that says he does not trust the attenders to have any comprehension of that the bible says or teaches at all.
I believe this is being fueled by the Assemblies of God's almost full, and fatal acceptance and approval of the NIV bible. First of all the parent company of Zondervan which published the NIV bible also published the Satanic bible as well as the Joys of Gay sex. Those are two strikes against the NIV simply by association. The KJV tells us that good and bad cannot come from the same source.
Two of the Editors on the NIV translation committee were avowed Homosexuals Dr Marten Woudstra head of the Old Testament committee, and Dr Virginia Mullekott which according to her own words edited most everything in the NT that dealt remotely with Sexuality. Thus perverting the Bible's sexual content to fit her orentation.
While The power that be within the Assemblies of God have to know this, they still persist, approve and push the NIV.
According to one of Barna's polls commissioned by the AG. Today only 34% of the AG congregations and Pastors even believe in the absolute Deity of God's Word. I believe that is a result, in part, by the pollution of God's word by translations like the NIV.
While the AG seeks to find new ways to increase attendance, they seek, by their association with the NIV to pollute the word of God. And most people, as the numbers prove know better than to believe in something that is based on untruths.

I see it as a bit judgmental to paint all the more recent translations with the broad brush of profiteering, situation ethics, and political correctness. And if we are going to question the ethics of the sponsors of modern translations, why is it acceptable to ignore the potentially selfish agenda of a King, who may have wanted to be immortalized through his commissioned work on the Bible, as well as the cultural baggage and personal bias brought to the translation by the clerics of that time?

I am not a scholor in Biblical languages, but I know a few for which I have the highest regard. I think the conscensus among them is that none of the accepted translations are totally free of problems (do a study on the KFV's assurance that "This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Luke 21:32). On the positive side, however, all of those works adequately reveal Christ as Lord and Savior. That is the key...The God of the Bible will preserve the witness of Christ in that Bible. To be distracted by lesser details is to diminish that witness. God help me to present Christ and Him crucified, and not get bogged down in trivia.

And yes, I know that nothing in Scripture is trivia. However, our flawed notions about the deep truths of God's word very often qualify as trivia (or worse). That is what I pray to be delivered from.

A faithful God, Holy and Just, gave His Son that we might live. Some org's are lost in remnant belief's while others believe that Christ died for all and all are going to heaven. I don't understand what all is going on but I do not rationalize the truth of God's Word to make it fit to societal and political norms of today. Otherwise we would need a mule in every service because one time in scripture God used it to speak, i.e. priscilla and aquilla. Regardless we all can disagree, but we must remain faithful to the sacrifice of God's only Son and His Word. Blessings

I AGREE W/ 4TRUE ABOVE, THE AG HAS CHANGED THE ROLES OF MEN AND WOMEN AS PER POSTION PAPERS & TOPIC PAPERS OF THE FAMILY ETC. AND RELATED. AND THE ORDINATION OF WOMEN. THE ASSOCIATIONS 4TRUE IS REFERRING TO ARE PROBABLY NON CONSERVATIVE CHURCH ORGS. ALSO, DIVISIVE ISSUES DURING THE KJV PERIOD HAS NOTHING TO DO W/$$$ AND GETTING ON THE BEST SELLING LIST BY MAKING AN ALL INCLUSIVE GOSPEL.
Jerry, You do bring up some good thoughts. If we aren't praying and seeking God, conforming to His image and if preachers aren't preaching the truths of God's word the translation being used isn't going to matter.
Don't you just love this new site that allows us to interact and see the questions and comments of other people?

John, my memory work has all been in the KFV, so I like it too. That is a bit of a problem lately, since almost no preacher ever preaches from it. It makes it harder to retain the memorized verses. That said, I still appreciate some of the modern translations.

I hardly believe the diminished effectiveness of the church can be attributed to the Bible version we use. I would rather believe it is a loss of focus on the part of some churches, including pastors who don't preach Biblical imperitives, and the folks in the pew who are forgetting Romans 12: 1 and 2, and forgetting to pray.

I grew up onthe KJV and still think it is the best translation. To me, it seems the NIV and others try to make the Bible too common. there is something going on in the religious world that surely others besides myself have noticed: In all our effort to make the Gospel more relevant, whether that be "easier to understand" Bible translations, more modern music, more user friendly church services or whatever updated thing we are trying, we as a church,(Even Pentecostal Churches) are being less and less effective in reaching, teaching and keeping souls for Christ. A great example of that is the fact that only about fifty percent of A.G. church attendees are filled with the Holy Ghost. For many other disturbing stats. about the church see George Barna's web site. I fear we have traded being anointed for being relevant.

While I am a fan of the King James...as well as several other versions, I rather imagine there was the potential for other devisive pressures during the King James period. I have to believe that the God who directed the writing is faithful to direct the renderings. What I am a little uncertain of is what the AG has now allegedly accepted???
