Jerry, I like your point. Romans 8:28 answers a lot for me. While, I believe, there are many difficulties that touch our lives that God did not create, I am confident that He will always cause them to work together for our good ... if we cooperate with Him. I went through four years of illness that seemed like lost years to me. Since then, that experience has enabled me to understand those who are suffering more, and opened many doors of ministry.

It is hard to add to the wisdom of the response by Mrs. Reddin. It is very well done.

In my more simple way of thinking, I like the words of a now seldom heard chorus, "If I never had a problem, I wouldn't know God could solve them."

Also, in considering Job's experience, I note that Job's response at one point was that, "the thing he feared most had come upon him." I wonder if there was an unholy fear that needed to be overcome? Of course, Job's memorable line was, "Though God slay me, yet will I trust Him." However, he was not delivered upon that confession. He was delivered when he stopped thinking about himself and began praying for his friends. May we all be quick to learn from Job.

Personally, I have experienced hardships in the past that made me wonder if God was really in control. Later, I have seen that an eternal purpose was served by the short-term hardship. Maybe that is why we are encouraged, "in every thing give thanks?" That is hard (maybe impossible) advice to follow if we are not sure we can withstand the adversity we are facing at the moment.
